Dotting Artist
Alison
I was valley-born, but have lived on the South Shore of Nova Scotia for most of my life. Being passionate about nature, I can usually be found doing anything that takes me outside. I’m either trailblazing on bike or foot, or beachcombing the beautiful shores of coastal Nova Scotia. I’ve always been deeply connected to the ocean and am fascinated with the energy it provides, to the gems that it washes ashore like driftwood, sea-glass and smooth stones.
I developed a keen interest in photography when I was a teen. Over the years I captured some beautiful landscapes, nature shots and candids, that others may not have always seen or anticipated. Most recently I developed a passion for creating art with dots.
In 2017, I received my first “dotting tool” from a good friend’s mom, Anne. She had been creating mandalas for a while and was happy to share her craft with me. I began dabbling with it while my mother and I waited to attend a workshop on painting mandala rocks, with Ginger of Otauna. We learned different mandala patterns and used a variety of tools. I painted my very first mandala that day and walked away with a piece of art and set of dotting tools.
I was completely hooked and inspired to continue creating mandalas on stones. I then ventured off to try other mediums, including canvas, wood, glass, sand dollars and even acorns!
Creating mandalas and other dot art on stones, or any medium, is something that I find very meditative and calming. It puts me in a zen state and I can get lost in it for hours at a time while the world is racing around me.
It is my intention to share my passion with anyone who loves nature and art!
